God chose to use AA as the method of reaching me and to bringing me to salvation in Jesus Christ.
The truth about recovery has come a long way since the Big Book of Alcohol Anonymous was written. The following is a quote describing why the book was written.
“Lack of power, that was our dilemma. We had to find a power by which we could live, and it had to be a Power greater than ourselves. Obviously. But where and how were we to find this Power?
Well, that's exactly what this book is about. Its main object is to enable you to find a Power greater than yourself which will solve your problem. That means we have written a book which we believe to be spiritual as well as moral. And it means, of course, that we are going to talk about God”. Big book page 45
So the point of the book was to enable the reader to find God who would solve the problem. The early years of AA were very successful at this because God fearing men lead and taught Godless men about Jesus Christ and the truth about all of life.
Chapter five declares “Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path.” In our time it is more like, rarely do we see a person succeed. In my opinion men and women have made the program, their program. They have defined God as they understand Him with no regard to who God really is. They lack understanding of what God says about all of mankind. Rom 3:10 as it is written,
"THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;
11 THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS,
THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD;
12 ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE;
TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS;
THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD,
THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE."
Point: We live in a fallen world and our true desire is to change God into what ever suites our fancy. God will not plan the game.
In my early years of recovery men who were seeking God were persecuted. They were told to take “The God Crap” to another meeting; we don’t want to here it.
The purpose of the The Anchor House is to teach and encourage that a relationship with Jesus Christ as foundational for recovery to all men. We can not give this relationship with Christ to anyone. You don’t necessarily need to have it to come to the house. But you must have a desire for a changed way of life. All we can provide is an atmosphere of peace and tranquility for the pursuit of it. You must provide the willingness to pursue it.
This means you must be willing to lay aside your own works of self righteousness. By Faith trust with perseverance the completed work of Christ as your only hope. Then you can pray, God, “Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always” Big Book Page 63
